Notes to My Brother’s Biological Father

1. When I taught him how to
comb his hair I thought, “you should
be jealous of me.”

2. His face is full-moon-
bright, dawn-sun-golden, pre-storm-calm.
He doesn’t look like you.

3. His hugs feel like being
caught and catching, like rest, and
fresh, perfect brownies.

4. He won’t stop dancing.
There’s always a song on loop in
his throat; radio-boy.

5. He rarely ever
asks of you. Rarely ever
asks of you. Ever ask?
